The College’s distinctive red-brick edifices require a long-term repair and renewal programme, something that has only become more important as they approach 50 years old. Chief amongst this is solving the water ingress issue in our buildings, and as part of BinsonGives we are asking for your help so that we can do just that.
Our Building Fund is integral to the College’s continued operation, enabling our students to experience Robinson in the same unpretentious glory as it possessed upon its official opening in 1981. However, it’s not a secret that the fabric of the College requires a lot of upkeep, and we are in the midst of a £10 million capital project including water-proofing, infrastructural improvements, and renovations that will secure Robinson’s foundations for another lifetime at least. This work is expensive, but invaluable to ensure we can continue to operate as a space for learning excellence.
This is also not just about repair, but renewal as well – we want to make our Grange Road buildings as accessible, modern, and welcoming as the College’s founding principles. Some of this will include looking at the way that the existing architecture being used, to better leverage the buildings for the entire community. At the same time, we will look to make the most of our location, and equip the restored buildings to inspire our community whatever they come here to do.
This is the time to put the water in Robinson back where it belongs, and out of the red bricks. Please consider contributing to the renewal of this place that has nurtured so many generations of Robinsonians; both for your currently studying successors, and those who will join us far into the future.
